Session Title: Integrated Mentorship: A Pillar of Successful, Sustainable Practice
Educational Track: Emerging Professionals
Session Code: TH0319
Date: Thursday, October 17, 2019
Time: 2:45 PM – 4:15 PM
LU/HSW: 1.5 LUs

Nurturing the development of emerging designers and aspiring architects is fundamental to practice growth, but also to a firm’s long-term sustainability. With roughly 40% of professionals expected to leave or retire in the coming decade, senior architects need a plan for cultivating their successors, training them for project administration, and grooming them for expanded firm leadership.

The discussion illuminates how emerging professionals can identify firms that effectively support them in their careers. At the same time, firm leaders will learn strategies for integrating mentorship opportunities into their practice in ways that improve recruitment and retention prospects — and help safeguard a firm’s long-term viability.

Learning Objectives: By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify firms that effectively support them in their careers,
  • Integrate mentorship opportunities in their careers,
  • Recruit and retain new talent,
  • Explain how mentorships can benefit senior level professionals.
